  8. WARNING: If you simply copy these files into the Workstation directory your
  9. existing 3270 LAN workstation will no longer function.  The installation
  10. instructions below must be followed 
  11.  
  12. Version 1.1 provides the following new features
  13.      - Windows 3.1 compatibility
  14.      - Automatic font resizing
  15.      - ANSI ASCII table support
  16.      - Upgrade installation program 
  17.  
  18. 1. Windows 3.1 Compatibility
  19.    v1.1 is fully compatible with Windows v3.0a and v3.1.
  20.    v1.0 is fully compatible with Windows v3.0a, but is not fully with v3.1.
  21. Both versions run only under the enhanced mode of Windows, therefore both
  22. require a 386 or 486 based computer.
  23.  
  24. 2. Automatic Font Resizing
  25. v1.1 can automatically resize the display font size to fit the size of the
  26. window.  The easiest way to learn about automatic font resizing is to
  27. enable the feature and resize the session window.
  28.  
  29. To enable or disable automatic font resizing, select the Config Fonts sub
  30. menu (<Alt> <C> <F>).  If a check appears to the left of the Adjust to Fit
  31. option, automatic font resizing is enabled; if the check is cleared,
  32. automatic font resizing is disabled.  To change the Adjust to Fit setting,
  33. choose Adjust to Fit (<A>).
  34.  
  35. Automatic font resizing chooses a font size from the font sizes supplied
  36. with the Workstation.  The chosen font size is determined as follows:
  37.    - If the shape of the window is close to proportional to the session
  38.    window, the program chooses the largest font size that allows all
  39.    session characters to appear in the window.  The program may also adjust
  40.    the size of the window to be exactly proportional.
  41.    - If the window is too small to display all the session characters at
  42.    the smallest font size (6x8 pixels), scroll bars appear.  You can use
  43.    the scroll bars to view other parts of the window.
  44.    - If the shape of the window is tall and narrow or short and wide, the
  45.    program selects the largest font size that fits the longest dimension.
  46.    For example, when the window is tall and narrow, the program selects the
  47.    largest font size that allows all rows in the session window to appear.
  48.    Scroll bars appear at the bottom of the window so that you can scroll to
  49.    display hidden character columns.
  50.    - If resizing the window makes the font size too small to read, you can
  51.    manually set the font size as described on page 5-3 in the User's Guide.

  53. 3. ANSI ASCII Table Support
  54. v1.1 uses the ANSI ASCII table, which is the same table used by Windows. 
  55. This ASCII table supports all national languages supported by the
  56. Workstation.
  57.  
  58. The ANSI ASCII table feature eliminates the need for the ASCII code page
  59. option described on page 5-15 of the User's Guide.  The option has
  60. therefore, been removed from the v1.1. 
  61.  
  62. 4. Information that became available after the User's Guide was printed
  63. > AS/400 Keyboard Support
  64. AS/400 keyboard map files were included with v1.0 and are named
  65. AS400101.KYB for the 101-key keyboard and AS40084.KYB for the 83/84-key
  66. keyboard.
  67.  
  68. > Configuration File Selection/Deletion Window
  69. A Delete button has been added to the Configuration File Selection window. 
  70. To delete a workstation configuration file, select the file and choose
  71. Delete (<Alt+D>).
  72.  
  73. > File Transfer Packet Size
  74. The default packet size for file transfers is 4KB.  We recommend that you
  75. set the packet size to 4KB or less.  Although increasing the packet size
  76. above 4KB may improve file transfer speed, it also decreases the number of
  77. sessions supported.  If you need to increase the packet size above 4KB,
  78. call Novell Technical Support at 800-NETWARE.
  79.  
  80. > Manual Font Sizing
  81. Allows you to select the font sizes that are used for all window sizes. 
  82. This feature, described on page 5-3 in the User's Guide, is changed as
  83. follows:
  84.      - The Default Screen Mode has been changed to 24x80 Screen Mode.
  85.      - The Alternate Screen Mode has been changed to Large Screen Mode.
  86. We recommend that you use different font sizes for the 24x80 Screen Mode
  87. and Large Screen Mode.  This will make it easier for you to determine which
  88. mode is being used.
  89.  
  90. > ISPF and File Transfers
  91. When your session is configured for Model 5 terminal emulation and you are
  92. using ISPF option 6, the Send and Receive commands (listed in the Transfer
  93. menu) may interfere with the tasks ISPF is performing.  To avoid problems,
  94. use the Send and Receive commands only when ISPF displays the TSO, READY
  95. prompt.
  96.  
  97. > Maximum Number of Host Sessions
  98. The number supported by the Workstation is determined by your workstation
  99. configuration and the other applications you are running within Windows.
  100.  
  101. > NWTOOLS and TBMI
  102. If you have used the install procedure for NWTOOLS or TBMI, the Workstation
  103. may not operate.  The problem may be caused by the configuration of the
  104. Windows SYSTEM.INI file, or it may be caused by incompatibilities between
  105. TBMI and the VIPX.386 network driver.
  106.  
  107. If you have used the install procedure for NWTOOLS or TBMI, the network
  108. line may not include all the required network drivers. To correct this
  109. problem, edit the NETWORK line of your SYSTEM.INI file to read as follows:
  110.            network=*vnetbios, vnetware.386, vipx.386
  111.    
  112. TBMI and the VIPX.386 needed for 3270 LAN Workstation for Windows need for
  113. network driver cannot be loaded into memory at the same time.  
  114.    If you no longer need TBMI, remove it.
  115.    If you need to use TBMI, set up your PC so that TBMI is not
  116.    automatically loaded by AUTOEXEC.BAT or CONFIG.SYS when the PC starts. 
  117.    TBMI is a TSR, which means it stays in memory until the PC is turned
  118.    off.
  119.  
  120. > Session Initialization Window
  121. The User's Guide shows the Session Initialization window for v1.0.  The
  122. Session Initialization window in v1.1 is organized differently, but the
  123. components are the same.
  124.  
  125. > Unrecoverable Application Errors during PostScript Printing
  126. If the Unrecoverable application error message appears while you are using
  127. Windows 3.0a and printing screens or host data, either:
  128.      - Obtain and install the Windows 3.1 printer drivers from Microsoft. 
  129.      The PostScript driver solves this problem. OR
  130.      - Upgrade to Windows 3.1.
  131.  
  132. > In rare instances, after placing a print job on HOLD status while
  133. printing, the ENABLE button will not reactivate the print job.
  134.  
  135. > Send/Receive does not fully support PSP mode.  As a result, some special
  136. Swedish characters will not translate correctly.
  137. The workaround is to use Structure Field Mode.
  138.  
  139. > A combination of non-display and reverse video attributes displays
  140. reverse video.
  141.  
  142. UPGRADING V1.0 INSTALLATIONS TO V1.1
  143. 1. Name a directory on the hard drive "WINWS" and copy all of the files in
  144. WINWS.ZIP into it.
  145.  
  146. 2. Then follow the installation procedure below exactly.  If you simply
  147. copy these files into the Workstation's working directory the Workstation
  148. will no longer work.  
  149.  
  150. 3. Set up the workstation as described on page 1-11 in the User's Guide.
  151. Verify that your workstation is using NetWare Shell v3.26 or later.  
  152.  
  153. The latest NetWare shell is in the most recent DOSUPn.ZIP in NOVLIB Library
  154. 5.ZIP.  (at the moment DOSUP5.ZIP) 
  155.  
  156. If you have used the install procedure for NWTOOLS or TBMI, 3270 LAN
  157. Workstation for Windows may not operate.  For more information, see
  158. "NWTOOLS and TBMI" above.
  159.  
  160. 4. Run Microsoft Windows and use Program Manager to select the File menu
  161. and choose Run (<Alt><F> <R>).
  162.  
  163. 5. When the Run window appears, enter 
  164.      drive:\WINWS\UPGRADE
  165. Replace the drive variable with the letter for the drive onto which you
  166. copied the files in WINWS.ZIP.  Click on OK. 
  167.  
  168. NOTE: SHARE.EXE should not be in memory while running UPGRADE.  
  169. Verify that it is not loaded in your AUTOEXEC.BAT if you are having
  170. difficulties running UPGRADE.
  171.  
  172. 6. UPGRADE displays the Installation dialogue box, which displays the
  173. directory where UPGRADE will install the v1.1 program.
  174.  
  175. 7. Enter the directory name and path your v1.0 files are stored in and
  176. choose continue.
  177.  
  178. 8. The installation program should now display Options 1 and 2 to allow you
  179. to customize your installation.  (If it does not, the software is not in
  180. the directory specified in Step 6).  For most installations, you can leave
  181. these options unchanged.  For more information on the options, see "Custom
  182. Installation Notes" below.
  183.  
  184. 9. The files are copied to the destination directory and WSCFG.INI is
  185. updated.  The modified WSCFG.INI is configured to use the ANSI ASCII table
  186. and the default color selections.  All other configuration settings retain
  187. the same values set in the original file.
  188.  
  189. 10. When UPGRADE has finished installing files, it displays a warning
  190. window that informs you that workstation configuration files need to be
  191. updated.
  192.  
  193. 11. Choose OK to display the Update Configuration Files window.
  194. To update a workstation configuration file:
  195.    A. Use the Files list box to display and select a configuration file.
  196.    B. Choose Modify.
  197.    After the program updates the file, the program displays an asterisk 
  198.    (*) to the left of the filename.  The asterisk indicates that the file
  199.    is updated. The filename remains unchanged.
  200.    C. When you have updated all files, choose Exit. The modified
  201.    workstation configuration files are configured to use the ANSI ASCII
  202.    table and the default color selections. All other settings remain the
  203.    same.
  204. When the Update process is complete, Upgrade terminates.  
  205. NOTE: Update can be run independently of the Upgrade program:
  206.    drive:\WINWS\update
  207.  
  208. 12. EXIT WINDOWS AND REBOOT.
  209. The workstation is now ready to run v1.1. 
  210.  
  211. Custom Installation Notes
  212. The Options dialogue box, provides two options to customize your
  213. installation.
  214.  
  215. Option 1
  216. Option 1 copies the NWIPXSPX.DLL and WTSPX.DLL files to the directory where
  217. your Microsoft Windows files are stored.  The check box to the left of the
  218. option allows you to enable (check the box) or prevent (clear the box)
  219. installation of these files.  Option 1 is normally enabled.  Disable
  220. installation only when you do not want to overwrite newer versions of these
  221. files.  For example, newer versions may have been installed by another
  222. NetWare program such as the Communication Services Manager).
  223.  
  224. Option 2
  225. Option 2 copies the IPX/SPX drivers for Windows to the \SYSTEM directory
  226. within the directory where your Windows files are stored (you cannot edit
  227. the directory name).  The box to the left of the option allows you to
  228. enable (check the box) or prevent (clear the box) installation of these
  229. files.  Option 2 is normally disabled.  Enable Option 2 only when the
  230. IPX/SPX drivers for Windows on the supplied with the Workstation are newer
  231. than the files that are already installed.
  232.  
  233. Locating the Program Item Icon
  234. WSLANWIN is the program item icon to choose when starting Workstation for
  235. Windows.  After an existing installation is updated, any existing icon for
  236. Workstation for Windows continues to operate; UPGRADE does not create
  237. additional program groups or icons.
  238.  
  239. Locating the Program File
  240. When using the Program Manager Run command, or when starting the program
  241. (and Windows) from the DOS prompt, you must specify the path to the
  242. WSLANWIN.EXE program.  During installation, this file is placed in the
  243. directory listed in the Workstation Installation dialogue box.
  244.  
  245. The default directory name is C:\3270WKS.  If the default directory name
  246. was changed during installation, ask the installer where the program file
  247. is currently stored.
